It's the Little Things-Gifts for the COVID19 Couple

It has become obvious that many of us know a couple or two who has been forced to make the difficult decision to postpone their upcoming wedding due to COVID19.  And, make no mistake, this has not been an easy decision for them. Some have been planning this day for their lifetime, others have been planning for a year or even a few months. Regardless of the length of time spent planning, the feelings of sadness, depression, fear, and worry have all been felt.

Over the past few days, I have had multiple people reach out to me to see if I had any ideas of a simple gesture that could be done to help make these couples feel celebrated and special during a challenging time for them and the country.

One of my clients who had to postpone their wedding recently shared with me that their friends and family have been reaching out in diverse ways.  Their Aunt had a wooden cookbook cover engraved with their names. She then reached out to different wedding guests and asked them to mail the couple their favorite recipes to fill the engraved book cover.  The couple felt so special and told me they love going to their mailbox to see what the mail will hold.  This is a simple gesture that made this couple feel special

Here are some fun, creative ideas we have curated.

Order a custom cutting board from Urban Bark Nebraska made with the couple’s names or monogram hand-burned in the corner. They can use this for a beautiful charcuterie board, fruit display or even hang in their kitchen.  The board is handcrafted and feels special.

If you have a couple of weeks leeway, consider ordering the couple a “His and Hers” vow booklet set like these found on Etsy.  A special shout out to Rebecca Green Design for a beautiful personalized vow booklet with a gorgeous natural satin ribbon (our fav). Write a note explaining the couple could choose to write their own personal vows and share them privately on the actual date they were going to get married. These vows could be very personal for them and provide a way to still commit to each other and remember it forever.  They could choose to share these vows on their new wedding date or save the booklets and use for their new date.

Create an email address for the couple.  Share this email address with the couple’s guest list. Ask the guests to email this address words of wisdom, thoughts, ideas, recipes, or anything they wish.  On the day of the original wedding date, share this email and password with the couple and let them view all the wonderful notes of love and joy from their guests.

If you are local to the couple, order a small wedding cake, gather a bottle of champagne, some toasting flutes and a charcuterie display and leave a little care package on their doorstep.

Mailed gift boxes are a big deal right now. Use any one of the box services and order a wonderful little box of joy to be sent on their original wedding date.  Marigold and Grey includes a handwritten note included in their boxes adding that personal special touch.  Simple and Sentimental also has a “Think of You Two Postponed Wedding Gift Box” that features a set of coffee mugs and an encouraging note.

We reached out to Letter Lane Design Studio and asked them to create a beautiful “his and hers love letters” set.  Purchase this beautiful set or have her customize the notecards with the couple’s names.  Prices range from $26-$29, plus shipping depending on the size you choose and both include the ribbon. If you want a set of envelopes add an additional $10 but I think the ribbon is a great way to keep the message secret.   Slip the cards in a cute box with a mini bottle of champagne, a beautiful ink pen and a note.  Explain to the couple they can write love letters to each other on their original date, seal them and open them on their new date.  I love this collaboration with Letter Lane, she is even willing to customize the image for you..I’m thinking adding their names or date, maybe a different image.  Yes, it is not an original idea to have couples write letters to each other that they open on a wedding date. However, it is a beautiful idea to have them write these letters in a nice notecard that is a keepsake. I have often seen couples reading love letters that have been written on a spiral bound notebook piece of paper.  This is a beautiful little gift that will become a keepsake.  For more information, check out her website or email her at hello@letterlanedesignstudio.com

And, depending on which part of the country you live, you could always “Card Their Yard.” For a fairly reasonable price, you can have a fun message placed in their yard. I’m thinking “Love will prevail!” or “We love you!” Also consider a beautiful DIY or contracted balloon installation on the front of someone’s garage would bring a smile to their face for sure.

Naturally, there are a lot of great ideas you can do to make the couple feel special. The gesture does not need to be as grand as involving all the guests, a simple greeting card sent the week of the original date would make them feel special.  For all of us married couples, our wedding date was full of joy, love, family, and friends.  With a simple thought, we can all help these “COVID Couples” feel the same thing on their original wedding date, even though they are celebrating at home.

Share with me any other ideas you have. Stay healthy!
